Finally!!!
....I finally got my batik Bear Paw uploaded. It's been finished for a little while. There's just not enough time in the day to do everything. :~( My two days off work were busy ones. Had to do lots of running around. Went to the used book store, The Rabbit's Lair, had the oil changed in my car, went to my dad's house and gave my son and his lovely girlfriend a desk and small night stand with the lamp that was on it, took it to his apartment for him, and went grocery shopping. Forgot...I did some laundry too. Wasn't going to go anywhere yesterday, but had to go and get some food that I had forgotten the day before.
Yesterday, my plans were to sit on my bum and read lots of posts on the quilting forum that I belong to, but that didn't happen. I spent a majority of the day cooking and making a variety of salads. This food should last us for several days since I really don't care to cook when I get home around midnight or so from work. This will give the M.O.M. something to eat since he's not much of a cook.

Trying to get caught up....
.....on the yard work, housework, and anything else that needs to get done around here. Got three of my flowerbeds cleaned out yesterday and did some dishes in the mean time. The top flowerbed has two different varieties of Spiderwort in it. I found some purple clover on the far side of our property. You know.....the kind that if you are lucky you just might find a four leaved one. I'll get out tomorrow and transplant some of it in the top bed with the Spiderwort, plus start cleaning out the other three beds and around the various bushes in the yard.
I have a good start of a Lilac bush that my DB helped me dig up from his place. We tried to get on of a Forsythia bush, but was unable to get a good root system from the mother bush. Someone had planted theirs in a tire and there was no way to get it. I'll let this one stay for the summer and see if what it looks like this fall. It may be toast for all I know. We'll see.....
Right now, I am just waiting on the laundry to get done so that I can get ready for another day at the deli. It's kind of nice not having to be at work until later in the day. A person is able to get things done outside that they would normally have to wait until their day off.....and to think that I used to hate this shift because you couldn't go and hang out with your friends. Oh the peace and quiet of living in the country. We have neighbors who live right around us, but it isn't as noisy as it would be if you lived in town.
Guess I'd better get in there and fold the towels. My honey is bringing home a nice juicy hamburger loaded with jalepenos from Sonic. Don't you just love it when people talk about food and make you hungrier than you already are????

Way Behind
Just wanted to say hi to all of you who stop here at one time or another.....It's been a little hectic around here with relatives being in and out of the hospital and the work hours. Speaking of work....this going to be short and sweet. Gotta go and put in a few hours tonight. hahahaha
Dad is in rehab. Sad to say, but he won't be able to go back to his house. He would have to have full time care. He can't walk even with a walker. He is too weak.
Pops, my SO's step-dad just had outpatient surgery and is recovering from that. Hopefully, he will get to retire like he was planning on doing after he is released by the doctor's.
I'm off tomorrow and it will be a partial day of working in the garden at Ray's folks house. The garden spot has been plowed twice by one of the neighbors and all it needs is some work to get the nasty bermuda grass out of it. That kind of grass is something that you don't want in your flowerbeds nor your garden. It likes to try and take over.
Have to work this weekend and then I'll be off Monday. Time to do some work around here. The shed needs rearranged....again. The yard needs mowed and the leaves removed from the flowerbeds.
I stuffed my little baggie filled with thread and the forever BP block that I am working on in my work bag. LOL!!! One of these days I'll manage to get it finished. HA! Might even get to work on it tonight when it's lunch time. Gotta have something to do for and hour. :~)
I'll post some pics of different things that I made last year and some pics of the scenery around here when I get a chance. It helps that I can plug the camera into my laptop. Yay!!!!
You guys take care and may you have a wonderful year!!!!

Compost Pile
My SO made me a make shift composting area earlier this year. It's two cinder blocks high which isn't a bad height. This next spring I'll have to get out there with a pick axe and get the perimeter around it a bit more level so that the blocks don't look like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
There's a little bit of everything in our compost. Shortly after the first of the year we had an ice storm and some of the fallen branches were tossed in there and set on fire. The rest of the branches were taken down the hillside so that they would help cut down on erosion. Maybe in another twenty years or so the backyard will be a little bit more level.
Here's a list of what gets tossed into the compost pile:
Egg shells, coffee grounds along with the filter(don't know how well the filters will compost), parts of the fruit that doesn't get eaten, veggie peelings, shredded paper, used tea bags(don't know how well those will do either), leaves, small branches, ashes from the grill, old dirt from houseplants, dead foliage, and whatever else can go in there without attracting varmints. We have cats to help keep them away just in case.
We normally wait until the spring time to rake the yard. There are still some leaves on some of the trees that refuse to fall off the trees until then. The leaves also kind of give my flower beds a little bit of covering from the elements of winter.
The dirt in the compost pile is a lot higher than the picture shows. It looks good until you take the shovel and turn it than you see the yucky red clay that is under it. You can tell that it is good soil. There were a lot of bugs in there earlier this year. Lots of sow bugs or rolly pollies as some people call them. We have lots of worms in there too. Saw some good sized Night Crawlers the last time I turned the compost. Saw some other kinds of bugs that I really don't want hanging around, but you just can't help that unless you spray....and spraying surely isn't good for the good kind of bugs.
